Buika, Now Streaming!

The Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State LA invites you to stream our virtual presentation of Grammy Award-winning Spanish flamenco and jazz singer Buika, now streaming on our website!

Hailing from the Spanish island of Mallorca, flamenco was an open door for Buika, who states “It’s not just about music, it’s a way of life. It’s about not running away from yourself. Some people sing about what they would like to happen or would like to be, but in the copla and el cante, we confront who we are, with all our fears and all our defects. In the United States there’s also a great tradition like this…the blues.”

Creating her unique musical fusion, Buika has become an international sensation and has received accolades around the world for her work. She was recently nominated for a Latin Grammy with Carlos Santana for their song “Yo me lo merezco.” Buika performs this song, plus three others, in this episode of our Virtual Experience series.
