El Día Internacional del Pueblo Gitano se conmemora el 8 de abril. Esta fecha recuerda el Primer Congreso Mundial romaní/gitano celebrado en Londres el 8 de abril de 1971 en el que se instituyó la bandera y el himno gitano.

La bandera es verde y azul, simbolizando el cielo y el campo, con una rueda de carro roja en el centro, que simboliza el camino desde la India y la libertad. El himno gitano, Gelem, gelem (Anduve, anduve), fue compuesto por Jarko Jovanovic y recuerda a los gitanos y gitanas víctimas del nazismo.

International Roma Day is commemorated on April 8. This date marks the First World Roma Congress, held in London on April 8, 1971, at which the Roma flag and anthem were officially adopted.

The flag features green and blue bands, symbolizing the sky and the land, with a red wagon wheel in the center, which symbolizes the journey from India and freedom. The Roma anthem, *Gelem, Gelem* (“I Walked, I Walked”), was composed by Žarko Jovanović and serves as a tribute to the Roma victims of Nazism.
