Eduardo Serrano ‘El Güito’, legend of flamenco dance passes away

With great sadness, we announce the passing of legendary dancer/choreographer Eduardo Serrano ‘EL GÜITO’.

Güito began dancing in the Madrid neighborhood of El Rastro, in 1942. He stood out so early that he made his professional debut at just 14 years old in the Pilar López Company along with Antonio Gades, Mario Maya as well as Curro Vélez and Alberto Portillo. With the death of Güito, a glorious era of this art is slowly coming to a close. He leaves behind a career that spans seven decades and was central to the history of Flamenco.

Ángel Álvarez Caballero spoke of the style of El Güito in 1995: “It has stage presence, it has seriousness, it has elegance. He is one of the dancers—few, very few—who makes a permanent exercise of expressive sobriety in his dance, stripped of all accessories, but who is nevertheless rich in unprecedented solutions, showing off a very beautiful repertoire of steps and attitudes that form a everything coherent and harmonious in which there is no room for anything that is not true, authentically profound.”

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and flamenco community. 🙏
