IX International Guitar Festival Granada

Through the efforts of its institutions and citizens, Málaga has become a cultural landmark in Southern Europe. Just mentioning the Pompidou, Thyssen, and Picasso museums gives us an idea of the enormous cultural commitment and success achieved. Málaga also boasts a world-class artistic heritage, with artists who are the foremost exponents in various fields. In music, it witnessed the birth of Pepe Romero, who is not only considered the quintessential Spanish guitarist of our time, but is also recognized as one of the most influential musicians in the history of music. Pepe Romero was born in Málaga in 1944. His father, Celedonio Romero, was one of the most important guitarists of the 20th century and, along with his brothers Celín and Ángel Romero, formed the Romero Quartet. Celedonio, unable to pursue his career and artistic future in Spain during the postwar years, emigrated with his wife, Angelita, and their three children to the United States. They arrived with nothing and a few months later they were performing at Carnegie Hall, proclaimed by the New York Times as “The Royal Family of the Guitar” and always with Málaga at the forefront. …

Málaga se ha convertido, con el esfuerzo de sus instituciones y ciudadanos, en el referente cultural del Sur de Europa. Sólo con nombrar los museos Pompidou, Thyssen y Picasso podemos darnos cuenta de la enorme apuesta cultural y el éxito obtenido. Málaga tiene, además, un patrimonio artístico humano de absoluta referencia mundial, con artistas que son el máximo exponente en diferentes especialidades. En la música vió nacer a Pepe Romero, que no sólo está considerado el intérprete de la guitarra española por excelencia de nuestros días, sino que es reconocido como uno de los músicos más determinantes de la Historia de la Música. Pepe Romero nació en Málaga en 1944. Su padre, Celedonio Romero, fue uno de los guitarristas más importantes del siglo XX y, junto a sus hermanos Celín y Ángel Romero, formaron el Cuarteto Romero. Celedonio, ante la imposibilidad de desarrollar su carrera y futuro artístico en los años de la posguerra en España, emigra junto a su mujer Angelita y sus 3 hijos a Estados Unidos. Llegaron sin nada y unos meses después actuaban en el Carnegie Hall, proclamándolos New York Times como “The Royal Family of the Guitar” y siempre con Málaga por delante. …
