‘Passion por Flamenco’ circuit reaches 15 towns in 2024

A new edition of the ‘Passion for Flamenco’ circuit will begin on May 4 in La Albuera, continuing until November 9 in 15 towns in the province. Promoted by the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Badajoz Provincial Council, its deputy delegate, Ricardo Cabezas, stated in the presentation of the program that this 2024 “we will have José Salazar Molina, the unforgettable Porrina de Badajoz, very present as a tribute on the centenary of his birth. Without a doubt, an artist who left an indelible mark on the history of flamenco.”

The ‘Passion for Flamenco’ circuit is one of the most established cultural programs of the Cultural Promotion Plan of the Provincial Council of Badajoz. Considered “a true tribute to the art, culture and tradition that makes us so proud in our land,” says Cabezas, flamenco, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2010 and a Site of Cultural Interest in Extremadura in 2022, “is not just playing, singing and dancing, it is a deep expression of the soul because through it we can feel the history and passion of this land that has known – and knows – how to preserve its roots.” And the fact is that Extremadura flamenco, he maintains, has its own personality and finds its hallmark in the jaleos and tangos.

But not only in the palos or toques, also in the performers and creators who, over time, have sown a living cultural expression in Extremadura, transmitting it from generation to generation. These performers, the MP points out, have achieved a presence and projection that has crossed borders, receiving awards such as the ‘Lámpara minera’ in the case of Miguel de Tena, Celia Romero or Esther Merino.

“And we cannot deny that there is a lot of art and talent in Extremadura,” says the MP, including young talent. “All of this, backed by that great fan base that is reflected in the number of clubs, associations, federations, festivals, cultural programs…”, he adds.

The 2024 program will cover 15 towns in our province, starting on 4 May in La Albuera and continuing through Casas de Don Pedro (18 May), Llerena (25 May), Fuente del Maestre (8 June), Jerez de los Caballeros (15 June), Castuera (22 June), Valverde de Leganés (6 July), Orellana la Vieja (13 July), Talavera la Real (20 July) Villafranca de los Barros (3 August) Bienvenida (31 August), Badajoz (21 September), Los Santos de Maimona (27 September), Campanario (4 October) and Quintana de la Serena (9 November).
