Antonio Marín Montero is not only one of the most important guitar makers of his generation. His name is already inscribed alongside the great guitar makers of history, such as Antonio de Torres, Miguel Rodríguez, Santos Hernández, Domingo Esteso, José Luís Romanillos, Daniel Friederich, Robert Bouchet, Manuel de la Chica, among very few others. Retired at the age of 91, he continued working alongside his collaborators, the great masters José Marín Plazuelo and José González López, in his workshop in Granada until 2024.

This competition honors Maestro Marín Montero who, with his legacy of hundreds of guitars throughout his 60 years of work, leaves behind a legion of instruments of the highest quality. Guitars that are already monopolized by the most exquisite collectors and played by the best concert artists and amateurs but which will also make Granada famous in the coming centuries. Granada, the city where Maestro Antonio Marín Montero, one of the best guitar makers in history, works. The Antonio Marín Montero International Guitar Making Competition, since its first edition in 2017, has been an unprecedented success. In an unprecedented format created by Vicente Coves and the European Guitar Foundation, the work done by the craftsmen on their guitars is valued. There are more than 40 different points where the good work of these guitar makers is checked. Contestants from more than 20 nationalities have passed and continue to pass through each of the editions, traveling thousands of kilometers to present their instruments to the jury. The success of this competition is having an unbeatable jury, made up of some of the most revered guitar makers from Germany, the USA and Spain. The collaboration with Guitar Salon International has made the winners of the successive awards, as well as other contestants who did not obtain a winning diploma but did receive interest from them, have achieved great success in their careers as a result of participating in the competition, changing their professional lives forever by having the focus of all the stores around the world focused on these guitar makers, increasing their waiting lists and opening a new path for their professional lives.
