Guitarist, winner of the “Guitarra con Alma” Award at the Festival de Jerez, producer, composer, passionate about music and creativity, he considers himself a compulsive musician who does not understand any other way of living if not by and for art.

Biography

Yerai Cortés Merino, better known artistically as Yerai Cortés, was born in 1995 in Alicante. His father Miguel and his mother María introduced him to flamenco music, teaching him to play the guitar from an early age. He started playing the cajón, accompanying his father in the falsetas of Paco de Lucía and Tomatito until he decided to play the guitar and since then he has not played the guitar, although he sometimes plays the percussion and the piano. He began his career working in the best flamenco tablaos in Madrid and in the great theaters of Spain such as: Teatro de Bellas Artes (Madrid), Teatro Coliseum (Barcelona), Teatro Lope de Vega (Seville), among others. A great teacher who opened the doors to ‘tocar pa bailar’ was his godfather Norman Contreras.

He has had the good fortune to accompany great artists such as: La negra, La Tana, Richard Bona, Marcos flores, Alfonso Losa, Manuel Liñan, Las hermanas Bautista, Chuchito Valdés, Javier Colina, Farruquito, among others. He is also a musical composer and performer of songs such as “La Zapatera” by Juan Debel & Yerai Cortés and the show “FlamenKlorica” by Vanesa Coloma. In 2021 he received the Guitarra con Alma Award from the Festival de Jerez for his guitar in Rocío Molina’s Al fondo riela. He was also composer/arranger for Tania García in which he has composed and produced her albums among many other national artists.

Recently, the Alicante guitarist starred in the film debut of singer Antón Álvarez, better known as C. Tangana, a highly personal film that will accompany the release of his next album. Yerai has been composing and performing with these extraordinary artists – La Tania, and Antón Álvarez. This collaboration recently won the prestigious GOYA Cinema Award in 2025, ‘Best Original Song’ “Los almendros” by Antón Álvarez, La Tania and Yerai Cortés— La Guitarra Flamenca de Yerai Cortes.

La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés is C. Tangana’s dazzling and powerful directorial debut. A film about a family’s rifts that manages to go beyond the usual documentary to reflect the beauty and pain that often exist in human relationships. A film with soul, which, at times, manages to unite the magic of cinema with that of music, with images to remember.

Guitarrista ganador del Premio “Guitarra con Alma” del Festival de Jerez, productor, compositor apasionado de la música y creatividad, se considera un músico compulsivo que no entiende otra forma de vivir si no es por y para el arte.

Biografía

Yerai Cortés Merino más conocido artísticamente como Yerai Cortés nace en 1995, en Alicante. Su padre Miguel y su madre María lo introducen en la música flamenca enseñándole a tocar la guitarra desde muy pequeño. Comenzó tocando el cajón, acompañando a su padre en las falsetas de Paco de Lucía y de Tomatito hasta que se decantó por la guitarra y desde entonces se separó de ella, aunque a veces es percusionista y toca el piano. Comienza su trayectoria trabajando en los mejores tablaos flamencos de Madrid y en grandes teatros de España como: Teatro de Bellas Artes (Madrid), Teatro Coliseum (Barcelona), Teatro Lope de Vega (Sevilla), entre otros. Un gran maestro que le abrió las puertas a ‘tocar pa bailar’ fue por su padrino Norman Contreras.

Ha tenido la suerte de acompañar a grandes artistas como: La negra, La Tana, Richard Bona, Marcos flores, Alfonso Losa, Manuel Liñan, Las hermanas Bautista, Chuchito Valdés, Javier Colina, Farruquito, entre otros. También es compositor musical e interprete de canciones como «La Zapatera» de Juan Debel & Yerai Cortés y del espectáculo «FlamenKlorica» de Vanesa Coloma. En 2021 recibió el Premio Guitarra con Alma del Festival de Jerez por su guitarra en Al fondo riela, de Rocío Molina. También fue compositor/arreglista, de Tania García en el que ha compuesto y producido sus álbumes entre muchos otros artistas nacionales.

Recientemente, el guitarrista alicantino protagonizó el debut cinematográfico del cantante Antón Álvarez, más conocido como C. Tangana, una película muy personal que acompañará el lanzamiento de su próximo álbum. Yerai ha estado componiendo y actuando con estos extraordinarios artistas: La Tania y Antón Álvarez. Esta colaboración ganó recientemente el prestigioso Premio GOYA de Cine 2025.

La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés es el deslumbrante y potente debut como director de C. Tangana. Una película sobre las desavenencias familiares que consigue ir más allá del documental habitual para reflejar la belleza y el dolor que a menudo existen en las relaciones humanas. Una película con alma, que, por momentos, consigue unir la magia del cine con la de la música, con imágenes para el recuerdo.
