El Villamarta nace de la decidida voluntad del Ayuntamiento de Jerez de dotarse de una infraestructura pública destinada al fomento de las artes escénicas y musicales, con el fin de garantizar el acceso de todos los jerezanos a la cultura; así como de poder contar con un aliciente más en la estrategia municipal de proyección exterior de Jerez.

El proyecto artístico del Villamarta -desde su definición de teatro público municipal- aborda de manera continuada y sistemática la programación de manifestaciones de calidad en todas las artes escénicas y musicales “clásicas”: teatro, música clásica y actual, flamenco, danza, ópera y zarzuela. A las temporadas y ciclos correspondientes -en los que adquiere singular relevancia la producción propia- se le suma dos eventos de proyección exterior: el Festival de Jerez y el Centro Lírico del Sur.

The Villamarta Theatre was born from the firm commitment of the Jerez City Council to create a public infrastructure dedicated to promoting the performing and musical arts, with the aim of guaranteeing access to culture for all residents of Jerez, as well as providing another asset in the city’s strategy for international outreach.

The Villamarta’s artistic program—defined as a municipal public theatre—continuously and systematically presents high-quality performances across all “classical” performing and musical arts: theatre, classical and contemporary music, flamenco, dance, opera, and zarzuela. In addition to its regular seasons and cycles—in which its own productions play a particularly important role—it also hosts two major international events: the Jerez Festival and the Southern Lyric Centre.
