Carla Simón presenta “Flamenco” con Rocío Molina en el Festival de Cannes 2026

05/06/2026: La directora Carla Simón ha presentado en el Festival de Cannes su cortometraje ‘FLAMENCO’, una emocionante cinta con Rocío Molina como protagonista, que supone un nuevo y sorprendente hito en la carrera de la cineasta catalana. Reseñamos también el nuevo poemario de un joven y talentoso escritor gitano: Eduardo García Mayo, hablamos sobre el tratamiento lexicográfico de los gitanismos del castellano en el diccionario de la Academia de la Lengua y recordamos al cantaor Chato de la Isla, para celebrar el centenario de su nacimiento.

05/06/2026: Director Carla Simón has presented her short film ‘FLAMENCO’ at the Cannes Film Festival—a moving work starring Rocío Molina that marks a new and surprising milestone in the Catalan filmmaker’s career. We hear Dolores Agujetas—who appears in the film—perform a seguiriya.

We also review a new poetry collection by a talented young Romani writer, Eduardo García Mayo; analyze the lexicographical treatment of Romani loanwords in the Royal Academy dictionary; and pay tribute to the cantaor Chato de la Isla on the centenary of his birth.

And, in our music segment, we remember Manuel Molina.

Carla Simón, the acclaimed director behind Summer 1993, Alcarràs and Romería, presents ‘FLAMENCO’ together with Mamma Team and Roma for ICEX / Audiovisual From Spain. Her work has helped establish Catalan cinema at the forefront of the international film landscape.

A bold and poetic exploration of one of Spain’s most cherished art forms. Born from her deep admiration for this cultural treasure, the project delves into the visceral tension between tradition and creative freedom, where movement becomes a language of memory and transformation.

The short film is presented by ICEX – Instituto de Comercio Exterior / Audiovisual from Spain and was produced by Mamma Team in collaboration with Roma Productions.

The film was produced by Mónica Blas, Oscar Romagosa, Claudia Mayer and Albert Soler. Written and directed by Carla Simón. With the talent of Rocío Molina, Dolores ‘La Agujeta,’ Carmela Greco, Ángeles Toledano, and Pedro Rojas Oyarzábal. The musical direction and original soundtrack of Niño de Elche. And the cinematography of Gris Jordana.
