Jose Luis de la Paz

José Luis de la Paz (Spain) is an award-winning guitarist, recognized in all disciplines of the flamenco arts as a performing guitarist and composer and whose original compositions range from the most traditional to experimental forms of flamenco exploring fusion with world music and jazz.

José Luis de la Paz was the musical director and composer for Ballet Cristina Hoyos for ten years before moving from Spain to the U.S. He resides in Florida and is currently the musical director and collaborator for the Siudy Garrido Dance Company. He has performed with numerous famous flamenco singers and dancers such as Jose Mercé, Arcángel, Argentina, Manolo Marin, Antonio Canales, Farruquito, Concha Buika, and Belen Maya, among others. In 1995, Jose Luis de la Paz was mentioned in Felix Grande’s book, Agenda Flamenca, as one of the best guitarists in Spain.

In 2015, he collaborated with the LA Philharmonic and Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, under the artistic direction of Siudy Garrido Company, in El Amor Brujo. That same year, he debuted his first symphonic work, Suite for Flamenco Guitar and Orchestra, in collaboration with Alex Conde (arrangements) and Berto Boyd (guitar transcriptions).

For FAF 2003, he performed as the musical director for Compañía Cristina Hoyos in two nearly sold out shows at the Lobero Theatre. The Flamenco Arts Festival welcomes him back to Santa Barbara in a magnificent music concert with exceptional artists from Miami.
